Background
As one of France’s leading water utilities, SAUR has been synonymous with reliable infrastructure and modern network management for decades. In Serres Castet and Sojau, officials were looking for a new solution for precise and continuous leak monitoring—with the goal of detecting water losses early and responding quickly.
The Challenge
Especially in large service areas with varying soil conditions, early detection of leaks is essential to prevent unnecessary water loss and consequential damage. SAUR wanted to test modern technology under real-world conditions—technology that is robust, efficient, and easy to integrate into existing processes.
As part of a field test, Johannes König (Product Management, SebaKMT®) and Lionel Buisset (Sales, France/Belgium) installed several units of the new SmartEAR®+eH system. The focus was on conducting an initial field test of the next-generation devices under real-world conditions—directly on SAUR’s network. SmartEAR®+eH impresses with its highly sensitive acoustic leak detection, combined with efficient data transmission and easy connectivity to the POSEYEDON® cloud. The devices can be deployed flexibly and continuously provide reliable information about the condition of the network.
The Results
The tests were successful: The devices provided meaningful data even in the early field phase and impressed with their ease of use and high measurement accuracy. The reliability of the data transmission and the intuitive analysis via the POSEYEDON® system were particularly highlighted. A particular highlight: As early as the day of installation, November 6, 2024, our loggers detected a leak at 12:00 p.m. using the SmartEAR®+eH. The leak was in a connection with a flow rate of approximately 300 liters per hour. The system reported a 95% probability of a leak, which clearly corroborated the suspicion and enabled targeted intervention. The customer was very satisfied with the solution—further applications within the SAUR network are already being evaluated.
